Recruited from Dookie and amateur side University Blues, John Moylan was a reliable half-back who faced the difficult task of breaking into North Melbourne's star-studded lineup during the club's golden era. Though he served as a valuable depth player at Arden Street, managing 30 games across five seasons, he was unable to secure a permanent spot in a defence anchored by legends like David Dench. Moylan played 11 games during the Kangaroos' 1977 premiership campaign but missed selection for the historic drawn Grand Final and subsequent replay victory. In search of greater opportunity, he transferred to the Western Bulldogs (then Footscray) for the 1979 season, where he finally enjoyed a run of regular senior football with 17 appearances in his first year at the Kennel before hanging up his boots at the end of 1980.
