Stats
Bio
Recruited from local side North Essendon Methodists, John Ramsay was a tall key position prospect whose senior opportunities were limited by the incredible depth of the Essendon list in the early 1950s. While restricted to just two VFL appearances during the 1952 season, Ramsay was a standout performer in the lower grades, notably starring at centre half-back in Essendon's 1952 Reserves premiership victory where he was named one of the best afield; he was also a member of the 1950 Reserves flag side. Seeking regular senior football, he crossed to the VFA to join Williamstown in 1954, a move that proved highly successful. Ramsay became a defensive pillar for the Seagulls during their golden era, playing in four premiership victories and establishing himself as a premier defender in the Association.
