Bio
Recruited as a talented dual athlete, John Scholes debuted for North Melbourne at just 17 years of age. Operating as a rover and forward pocket, the 169cm playmaker used his natural skill and goal nous to boot 35 majors in a promising start to his career. However, significant knee issues forced him into early retirement from the VFL after the 1971 season. While his time at Arden Street was brief, Scholes later became a giant of Victorian cricket, serving the state as a player, captain, and coach where he was affectionately known as 'Barrel'.
