Bio
Recruited from Doutta Stars, John Welsh joined Essendon during a golden era for the club but faced significant difficulty breaking into a side destined for premiership success. A depth player who was often on the fringe of senior selection, he made his debut in 1961 and managed sporadic appearances over three seasons at Windy Hill. With the Bombers boasting a star-studded lineup that claimed the 1962 flag, Welsh was unable to secure a permanent position in the defensive rotation and finished his VFL career with just nine games to his name.
