Bio
A wartime recruit who made a brief cameo for the Demons, Johnny Dalton was plucked from military service to help fill a depleted Melbourne list during the difficult 1943 season. Originally from Moyhu in the Ovens and King Football League, Dalton was serving with the Land Headquarters Signals unit in the Australian Army when he was spotted playing Sunday football in Melbourne. With the club facing a severe injury crisis and losing players to the war effort, he was drafted into the senior side to make his debut against Footscray at the Western Oval. He held his spot for the following week’s clash against Carlton at Punt Road, where he booted two goals in what would be his final VFL appearance. His top-flight career concluded as quickly as it began due to his military commitments, and he eventually returned to the Wangaratta region after the war.
