Bio
A local recruit from Auburn, Johnny Hall carved out a unique place in Hawthorn history with a stunning albeit brief cameo in the senior side. After topping the club's Reserves goalkicking table in 1938, he was rewarded with a debut in Round 17 against South Melbourne at Glenferrie Oval. Hall seized the opportunity, booting five goals to set a club record for the most goals on debut—a feat later equalled by stars such as Dermott Brereton but never surpassed. He added another two majors in the final round of the season, finishing with an impressive tally of seven goals from just two games. Despite his sharp shooting and high average, Hall did not feature for the Hawks again, eventually moving to Melbourne's list the following year but leaving behind a standing record that links him to some of the game's greatest forwards.
