Bio
Recruited from Leongatha in the Korumburra District Football Association, Johnny Hassett was a lively rover who made an immediate impact at VFL level. He announced himself to the competition with a stunning four-goal haul on debut against Richmond in Round 18, 1913, though he would not feature again until 1915 after missing the entire 1914 season. Upon his return, he became a regular fixture in the Redlegs' lineup, adding another 13 games to his tally before the club withdrew from the competition due to the onset of the First World War. Hassett enlisted for active service in 1917 and, although he survived the conflict, never returned to league football, eventually moving into coaching with country sides Somerville and Cranbourne in the early 1920s.
