Bio
Born into a devout family as the son of a Presbyterian minister in Rokewood, Johnny Hay arrived at Victoria Park with a respectable pedigree, having played his early football at Scotch College and the Ballarat Football Club. The younger brother of Fitzroy player Robert Hay, he broke into the Collingwood side midway through the 1906 season and quickly settled into a role as a reliable full-back. While his career was brief, spanning just two seasons, Hay was a fixture in the Magpies' defensive unit during his tenure and featured in the club's 1907 semi-final campaign. Despite establishing himself in the backline, his time at the top level concluded after just 19 games, leaving him as a momentary but dependable figure in the club's Edwardian-era history.
