Bio
A speedster recruited from the Burnie Tigers in Tasmania, Jon Riggs arrived at Moorabbin with a reputation built on raw pace rather than ball-winning accumulation. Distinguished by his background as a professional sprinter, Riggs claimed the prestigious Hobart Gift in 1983 before trying his luck in the VFL the following year. Standing 183cm but weighing a slender 73kg, he struggled to translate his track speed into consistent senior football impact during a lean era for St Kilda, managing just six appearances across two seasons as a fringe wingman and flanker. Following his delisting, he carved out a respectable state league career with West Perth in the WAFL and later the Devonport Blues, while continuing his athletics pursuits to win the major 1989 Burnie Gift.
