Bio
Arriving in the AFL with the weight of arguably South Australian football's most famous surname, Jonathon Robran—son of Legend Barrie and brother to Adelaide's Matthew—was recruited from Norwood to Hawthorn as a tall key position prospect. Primarily deployed as a key defender or relief ruckman, he became a regular fixture in the Hawks' backline during the mid-to-late 1990s, utilising his height to spoil opposition forwards without ever quite reaching the lofty expectations set by his pedigree. After being delisted by Hawthorn following the 1999 season, he was thrown a lifeline by Essendon in the pre-season draft to provide defensive depth for a squad entering its premiership window. However, Robran found it difficult to break into the Bombers' dominant 2000-era lineup, managing just a handful of senior appearances amidst a star-studded defence before departing the league at the end of 2001.
