Bio
Josh Bruce began his AFL journey as an ACT zone selection for the Greater Western Sydney Giants, entering the league as a key defender. After struggling to cement a regular spot in the Giants' inaugural backline, he was traded to St Kilda ahead of the 2014 season in search of greater opportunity. It was at the Saints that Bruce transformed into a formidable key forward, utilising his strong contested marking and aerobic capacity to become the club's leading goalkicker in 2015. He became a focal point of the Saints' attack during a rebuilding phase, known for his ability to crash packs and provide a contest even when outnumbered.
In late 2019, Bruce requested a trade to the Western Bulldogs to add experience to a developing forward group. His time at the Kennel was defined by a bittersweet 2021 campaign; he booted a career-high 10 goals in a match against North Melbourne but suffered a heartbreaking ACL injury in the dying seconds of a round 21 clash, costing him a place in that year's Grand Final side. Upon his return, Bruce attempted to reinvent himself back in defence but found it difficult to recapture his best form given the physical toll of the injury. He retired in 2023 as a respected swingman who successfully converted his defensive background into a decade-long career as a reliable goalkicker.
