Bio
Recruited from West Adelaide via the 2022 Mid-Season Draft, Josh Carmichael was a powerful mid-forward who originally hailed from the Sunraysia region in country Victoria. He made a rapid transition from state league football to the AFL, debuting just weeks after arriving at Collingwood and quickly earning a reputation as a goal-kicking midfielder with a big frame. His most memorable performance came against Essendon in 2022, where he was subbed into the game and booted two clutch goals to help seal a thrilling victory during the Magpies' famous winning streak. Despite showing promise as a contested ball-winner who could drift forward, Carmichael's career was unfortunately cut short. After battling persistent concussion symptoms throughout 2023 and early 2024, he was medically retired in the middle of the 2024 season on the advice of the AFL's independent panel.
