Bio
Selected with pick 56 in the 2009 National Draft from the North Ballarat Rebels, Josh Cowan endured one of the most injury-riddled careers in modern Geelong history. A pacy midfielder and half-back capable of breaking lines, Cowan displayed promise early but was perpetually sidelined by a recurring series of hamstring and Achilles issues that restricted him to just three senior appearances in his first six seasons. His perseverance was briefly rewarded in 2016 when he broke into the side to play nine games, including the Preliminary Final loss to Sydney, showing the dash and composure the Cats had waited so long to see. Despite his resilience in the face of long-term rehabilitation, his body ultimately could not sustain the rigours of AFL football, leading to his delisting at the conclusion of the 2017 season after just 16 games in eight years.
