Bio
Recruited from the Calder Cannons with pick 22 in the 2021 National Draft, Josh Goater entered the AFL system as a dynamic utility known for his vertical leap and line-breaking speed. Initially deployed across half-back, he offered North Melbourne a blend of intercept capability and rebound, showing promising signs during a 10-game stint in the 2023 season. However, his development was severely interrupted by a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained in Round 1, 2024, a devastating injury that wiped out his entire campaign and stalled his momentum. Despite possessing the athletic traits required for the modern game, Goater found it difficult to regain a consistent place in the senior side upon his return, leaving him with a modest game tally as he battled to re-establish himself in the Kangaroos' defensive rotation.
