Bio
Recruited from East Fremantle, Josh J. Kennedy was originally selected by Carlton with pick four in the 2005 National Draft, though his time at Princes Park was brief. His career trajectory was irrevocably altered at the end of 2007 when he was included as the key player component in the blockbuster trade that sent West Coast captain Chris Judd to the Blues. While initially carrying the significant weight of expectation attached to that high-profile exchange, Kennedy flourished upon his return to Western Australia, eventually establishing himself as the focal point of the Eagles' attack for more than a decade.
Renowned for his unorthodox stutter-step set shot routine, elite aerobic capacity, and vice-like grip in marking contests, Kennedy became the prototype for the modern hardworking key forward. He captured two Coleman Medals and surpassed Peter Sumich to become West Coast's all-time leading goalkicker. A three-time All-Australian and a pivotal figure in the club's 2018 premiership victory, Kennedy retired in 2022 as an undisputed club legend, fittingly booting eight goals in his final game to conclude a career defined by consistency and sharpshooting.
