Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick 21 in the 2002 National Draft, Josh Thewlis arrived at Sydney with expectations of developing into a hard-nosed ball-winner. A tough, in-and-under midfielder who could also operate as a small defender, he broke into the senior side for two matches during the 2004 season but struggled to cement a permanent spot in Paul Roos's disciplined lineup. After being delisted by the Swans, Thewlis was handed an AFL lifeline by the Kangaroos, who selected him with the fourth pick in the 2005 Pre-Season Draft. However, he was unable to add to his game tally at Arden Street and was delisted after a single season without a senior appearance for the club.
