Bio
Recruited from the Gold Coast with pick 75 in the 2009 National Draft, Josh Thomas began his career as a depth midfielder before evolving into a crafty small forward. His time at Collingwood was defined by a significant career interruption; he served a two-year suspension for an anti-doping violation that wiped out his 2015 and 2016 seasons. Although he was formally delisted during the ban, the club committed to selecting him in the rookie draft once his eligibility was restored, offering him a second chance at the elite level.
Thomas returned to the senior side in mid-2017 and repaid the club's faith by producing the best football of his career. He reinvented himself as a high-pressure forward with sharp goal sense, enjoying a breakout 2018 campaign where he booted 38 goals and played a crucial role in the Magpies' charge to the Grand Final. Known for his cleanliness below the knees and ability to hit the scoreboard, he remained a regular member of the starting 22 until his departure at the end of the 2021 season, finishing as a player who notched over 100 games and 100 goals despite his unconventional journey.
