Bio
Recruited from the prolific football nursery of St Patrick's College via Ballarat YCW, Justin McGrath initially looked set for a career with Hawthorn after being taken with pick 56 in the 1988 National Draft. Unable to break into the powerhouse Hawks lineup of the late 1980s, he was delisted without playing a senior game but received a lifeline when Fitzroy selected him in the 1991 Pre-Season Draft. McGrath seized his second opportunity, breaking into the Lions' senior side midway through the year to play eight games. A small utility capable of rotating through the midfield or defensive flanks, he provided depth for the struggling Roys during a difficult campaign. Although his time at the elite level was limited to a single season, McGrath remains a part of Fitzroy's history during the club's battle for survival in the 1990s.
