Bio
A determined defender who took a circuitous path to the AFL, Justin Perkins originally hailed from Heywood in western Victoria. Despite winning a best and fairest award with the North Ballarat Rebels, he was initially overlooked in the national draft, eventually moving to Western Australia to pursue university studies while playing for Perth in the WAFL. His mature-age form in the west attracted the attention of North Melbourne, who secured him with pick 51 in the 2005 Rookie Draft. Perkins was elevated to the senior list midway through his first season and played four consecutive games, utilised as a medium-tall backman capable of playing on varied opponents. He was unable to add to his game tally in 2006 and was delisted at the end of the season, leaving the club with a short but hard-earned legacy as a player who crossed the country to crack the top level.
