Bio
Recruited from Clarence in Tasmania with pick 45 in the 2004 National Draft, Justin Sherman made an immediate impact for the Brisbane Lions during the club's transition away from its triple-premiership era. He was a revelation in his first two seasons, earning a runner-up finish in the 2005 Rising Star award and placing second in the Merrett-Murray Medal count in 2006. A line-breaking utility capable of playing on a wing or as a goal-kicking half-forward, Sherman's game was built on blistering pace and the ability to break lines, often punishing opposition zones with his aggressive run-and-carry style.
Despite his electric start, Sherman's output became inconsistent as the Lions struggled, though he did enjoy a significant statistical resurgence in 2009. Seeking a fresh start and a move to Victoria, he was traded to the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2010 season. His tenure at Whitten Oval began with promise as he played 22 games in his first year, but his 2012 campaign was marred by form issues and a suspension arising from a racial vilification incident. Unable to recapture his early career brilliance or secure a regular spot in the senior side, he was delisted at the end of 2012, finishing his AFL career at just 25 years of age.
