Bio
Recruited from the Tassie Mariners via Glenorchy, Justin Wood was a medium-sized forward selected by Geelong with pick 54 in the 1997 National Draft. He broke into the senior side in Round 9, 1998, but it was his second match that hinted at significant potential; playing at the MCG against eventual Grand Finalists North Melbourne, the teenager booted a career-high four goals in a standout performance. Despite this early flash of brilliance, Wood struggled to sustain his impact at AFL level, managing just one more goal across his remaining five games for the Cats. After failing to register a senior appearance in 1999, he was delisted and subsequently offered a lifeline by the Western Bulldogs in the 2000 Rookie Draft. He was unable to add to his game tally at the Whitten Oval, finishing his time in the league with that solitary breakout afternoon as his primary highlight.
