Bio
Recruited from local side West Heidelberg YCW, K. Shane Bond was a diminutive, speedy rover and left-foot kick who worked his way up through the Magpies' thirds and reserves. He is forever etched in football folklore as the answer to a famous trivia question, being the player in possession—dashing down the wing with three bounces—when the final siren sounded to end the 1977 Drawn Grand Final against North Melbourne. While he struggled to cement a permanent starting spot and often impacted games as a fresh-legged reserve, he was a handy contributor who once booted four goals against St Kilda. Following the 1978 season, Bond was traded to North Melbourne in a high-profile swap for forward Craig Davis. His stint at Arden Street was hampered by a serious leg injury (broken tibia and fibula) early in 1979, though he did taste success in the club's 1980 night premiership victory before retiring at the age of 26.
