Bio
Recruited from the Eastern Ranges with pick 45 in the 2002 National Draft, Kade Simpson overcame an inauspicious start to his AFL career to become one of Carlton's most durable and beloved figures. Weighing in as one of the lightest players in the competition, he infamously failed to register a single disposal in his first three senior matches, leading to early doubts about his viability at the top level. However, Simpson established himself in the side by 2005, famously wearing long sleeves and displaying a level of courage that belied his slender frame.
Primarily operating as a rebounding defender and wingman, Simpson was renowned for his elite left-foot kicking and ability to read the play behind the ball. He possessed an uncanny knack for intercepting opposition attacks and launching counter-attacks with precision. Despite his size, he consistently put his body on the line, earning a reputation as one of the bravest players of his generation. His durability was remarkable; he played 158 consecutive games between 2005 and 2012, providing a rare constant during a tumultuous period for the Blues that saw multiple coaching changes and rebuilding phases.
