Recruited from West Adelaide with pick 66 in the 2012 National Draft, Kaiden Brand was a key defender who served a long apprenticeship at Hawthorn before seeing senior action. His early development was hampered by shoulder injuries and the immense challenge of breaking into a premiership-winning backline featuring the likes of Brian Lake and Josh Gibson. When he did play, Brand operated as a spoiling tall defender capable of matching up on second and third talls, though he often struggled to retain his spot in the senior side once established stars returned. After 43 games over seven seasons, he was delisted by the Hawks but immediately offered a lifeline by Sydney as a delisted free agent to bolster their defensive depth. Brand managed just five appearances for the Swans across two seasons before being delisted at the conclusion of 2021, ultimately serving as a depth player for the majority of his career.
