Bio
Once considered a potential first-round talent, South Australian Kaine Baldwin arrived at Essendon via the 2021 Pre-Season Supplemental Selection (SSP) after two knee reconstructions saw him slide out of the national draft. The Glenelg product was recruited as a physically imposing key forward known for his contested marking and work rate, attributes that earned him an emotional debut in Round 1, 2022 against Geelong. However, Baldwin struggled to cement a regular spot in the Bombers' attack and spent significant time in the VFL, where he eventually reshaped his game as a key defender to improve his versatility. Despite showing promise in this new role, a severe navicular foot injury wiped out his entire 2024 campaign, denying him the chance to press his case for a contract extension. He was delisted at the end of that season, departing the club as a resilient figure whose career was ultimately curtailed by persistent medical setbacks.
