Family

The son of South Australian football icon Graham Cornes, Kane Cornes arrived at Port Adelaide via pick 20 in the 2000 National Draft, joining his older brother Chad at Alberton. While he did not possess the explosive athleticism or versatility of his sibling, Cornes carved out a distinct reputation built on elite endurance, tactical discipline, and relentless work rate. He quickly established himself as a fixture in the Power lineup, playing a vital role in the club's breakthrough 2004 premiership victory and becoming a model of consistency during the Power's dominant era in the mid-2000s.

Cornes is best remembered as the premier run-with player of his generation, tasked with nullifying the competition's most dangerous midfielders while simultaneously accumulating high possession numbers himself. His ability to shut down opposition stars, combined with his prolific ball-winning ability, saw him earn All Australian selection twice and claim the John Cahill Medal as Port Adelaide's best and fairest on four occasions. His durability was exceptional, allowing him to become the first player in the club's AFL history to reach the 300-game milestone.
