Bio
Recruited from Kew YCW, Keith Wiegard was a versatile athlete whose promising VFL career was interrupted by a car accident that inadvertently launched his journey to the Olympic Games. Establishing himself as a regular in the Fitzroy lineup during the 1958 season, he played in the club's Semi Final campaign before a serious knee injury sustained in a vehicle collision in mid-1959 forced him onto the sidelines. During his recovery, he pivoted his competitive focus to water polo, eventually representing Australia at the 1960 Rome Olympics. Wiegard attempted a return to Brunswick Street in 1961, but the lingering effects of his injury restricted him to just three more appearances before he retired from top-level football. He remained a dedicated servant of the Lions, later returning as club President from 1981 to 1984 to guide the club through a financially precarious era.
