Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Goulburn Valley, Ken Christie was a talented tall who Melbourne courted for two seasons before he finally relocated from Echuca for the 1951 season. He developed into a robust utility under Norm Smith, capable of shouldering the ruck load or holding down a key defensive post where his strength and overhead marking were vital. Christie became a mainstay of the Demons' lineup during their rise to power, featuring in the 1954 Grand Final loss to Footscray. His career ended with a story of Premiership heartbreak; despite being a regular contributor throughout the dominant 1955 season, a severe ankle injury late in the year ruled him out of the finals, forcing him to watch on as his teammates claimed the flag. He subsequently left the VFL to captain-coach McKinnon in the Federal League.
