Bio
Recruited from Rochester in the Bendigo League, Ken "Chips" Colvin followed his mentor, former Melbourne captain Noel McMahen, to South Melbourne when McMahen took over the coaching reins in 1962. Colvin quickly established himself as a ruthless, close-checking defender who typically lined up on a half-back flank, though he was versatile enough to shift to full-back or pinch-hit in the forward line when the Swans needed a spark. Known as a straight-ahead player who never took a backward step, he remained a fixture in the senior side for nearly four seasons until the pull of rural life cut his VFL career short. He departed the club midway through 1965 to pursue a share-farming opportunity at Lockington, eventually returning to country football where he won a best and fairest with Rochester and played in a premiership with Echuca.
