Bio
Ken Dean was a homegrown talent who continued a strong family tradition at Arden Street. Recruited from the North Colts as a 17-year-old, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Fred, and played his early football alongside his brother, Norm. While he initially broke into the senior side as a half-forward, Dean eventually found his true calling in defence, establishing himself as a tenacious back pocket who could shut down dangerous opposition forwards.
A constant presence in the North Melbourne lineup for over a decade, Dean was a reliable servant during a mixed era for the club. He racked up 159 games across 12 seasons, providing essential stability in the back half while the team often battled for consistency. After a long tenure in the royal blue and white, he departed the VFL at the end of 1967 to take up a captain-coach role with VFA club Sunshine.
