Bio
Best known as a distinctively agile wicketkeeper for Victoria, Ken Mace was a dual code athlete who played VFL football briefly in the years immediately following the Second World War. He commenced his league career with Hawthorn in 1946, where he was utilised as a defender, bringing the sharp reflexes required of his cricketing trade to the football field. After 19 games with the Hawks, Mace transferred to St Kilda midway through the 1947 season, but his stint at the Junction Oval was restricted to a solitary senior appearance. His football journey concluded shortly thereafter, with his focus shifting permanently to first-class cricket where he eventually captained the state side.
