Bio
Recruited from Mooroopna in the Goulburn Valley, Ken McKenzie’s brief VFL career was defined by the tyranny of distance as much as his on-field ability. He undertook the arduous task of travelling from the country to Melbourne each week to play, a significant logistical commitment in the amateur era that severely limited his availability. A forward option who knew where the goals were, McKenzie managed to hit the scoreboard in more than half of his appearances, including a two-goal haul against South Melbourne in 1910. Despite showing promise as a reliable scorer, the burden of his weekly commute proved unsustainable, restricting him to just 12 games over three seasons before he finished his time at the elite level.
