Bio
Recruited from the Carlton Thirds, Ken Reed was a tall follower who spent several seasons honing his craft in the Essendon reserves before receiving a brief opportunity at senior level. While he struggled to cement a regular spot in the Bombers' lineup—managing just two senior appearances in the 1955 season—his time at Windy Hill was highlighted by significant success in the lower grades, including a reserves premiership in 1952 and a reserves Best and Fairest award in 1953. Unable to bypass the club's established ruck division, Reed crossed to Williamstown in the VFA in 1956, where he immediately found his feet and became a key member of the Seagulls' 1956 and 1958 premiership sides.
