Bio
Recruited from amateur powerhouse Collegians after representing Victoria at state level, Ken Rowe was a tall defender who overcame significant early knee injuries to break into the Melbourne lineup during the club’s mid-60s transition. Standing 188cm, he established himself as a reliable centre half-back, but his VFL playing career was abruptly cut short after just two seasons when the Education Department transferred him to a teaching post in Numurkah. While he went on to enjoy success as a premiership captain-coach for Shepparton and later led Frankston in the VFA, Rowe’s most enduring contribution to the Demons came off the field. Returning to the club as a board member and recruiting manager in the 1980s, he was the architect of Melbourne's pioneering "Irish Experiment," launching the international recruitment strategy that eventually unearthed club legends like Jim Stynes and Sean Wight.
