Bio
Recruited from Ashburton after attracting interest from several league clubs, Ken Ward was a defender whose transition to senior football was paved by a pivotal role in Richmond's 1955 reserves premiership. A steady back pocket who balanced defensive accountability with the pace to rebound, he became best known for a match-winning performance during the Tigers' shock two-point victory over the powerhouse Melbourne side in 1957, where his anticipation and clearing dashes were credited with holding off the Demons. Ward remained a regular fixture in the defensive unit until the end of the 1959 season, eventually continuing his career in the VFA with Oakleigh before moving to Sydney to captain-coach St George to a premiership in the NSWANFL.
