Bio
Recruited from Croydon in Melbourne's outer east, Ken Wharton was a towering prospect who arrived at South Melbourne with a significant physical advantage. Standing at an imposing 196cm, he was a giant by the standards of the mid-1960s, utilised primarily as a ruckman who could drift forward to create a contest. He made his debut in the opening round of the 1964 season against Hawthorn, but the sizeable big man found it difficult to cement a regular spot in the senior side. Wharton managed just four appearances and two goals during his single season at the Lake Oval before departing the VFL scene.
