Bio
Recruited from Clifton Hill CYMS, Kevin "Skeeter" Coghlan was the smallest player of his generation at just 163cm, famously earning his nickname after clearing a high jump bar taller than himself as a junior. After winning a Gardiner Medal in the reserves but struggling to cement a regular senior spot in Collingwood's formidable lineup, he requested a clearance to Hawthorn in 1953—a move that saw him miss the Magpies' premiership that year but revitalize his own career. He immediately thrived at Glenferrie Oval as a sharp-shooting rover, topping the Hawks' goalkicking table for three consecutive seasons (1953–1955) and establishing himself as a fan favourite before eventually becoming a respected football journalist.
