Bio
Originally listed by Carlton in the late 1980s, Kevin Dyson was unable to break into the senior side at Princes Park and was forced to take a longer route to the top level via the VFA. His second chance arrived when Melbourne selected him with pick 36 in the 1990 National Draft, and he wasted little time establishing himself in the Demons' best 22. Operating primarily as a running defender and wingman, Dyson was known for his ability to carry the ball and link play from the back half, becoming a consistent figure in a Melbourne side that contested finals in the early 1990s.
Dyson's career found a second wind when he moved to the Sydney Swans for the 1996 season, adding valuable experience to a list that was rapidly evolving under Rodney Eade. He played a pivotal role in the Swans' surge up the ladder that year, playing 19 games and featuring in the 1996 Grand Final loss to North Melbourne. While never a headline-grabbing star, Dyson was a disciplined and reliable outside runner who maximised his second opportunity at AFL level, eventually retiring at the end of 1998 with over 100 games to his credit.
