Bio
Recruited from Myrtleford in the Ovens and Murray Football League, Kevin Smith was a rugged and solidly built centre half-back who made an immediate impression at Punt Road. He arrived at Richmond with a reputation as a "no-frills" defender who gave opponents little latitude, utilising his physical strength, reliable high marking, and long kicking to anchor the backline. His impact was instant, earning him the club’s Best First Year Player award in 1964 and establishing him as a key pillar in the Tigers' defence during the mid-1960s. After 47 games over three seasons, he departed the VFL at the end of 1966 and returned to the Ovens and Murray league, where he enjoyed a decorated career as a forward for Myrtleford and Yackandandah, eventually amassing nearly 400 senior games across all competitions.
