Bio
Recruited to the Lions during one of the club's most difficult eras, Kevin Mitchell was a diminutive utility who was thrown into senior football as a teenager. Standing just 173cm and weighing 67kg, he was a lightweight option often deployed in the back pocket or as a resting rover. He made his debut in Round 6, 1964, against Melbourne at Brunswick Street, joining a Fitzroy side that was in the midst of a winless 0-18 season. Mitchell held his spot for six consecutive matches during that wooden spoon campaign, toiling in defence under the weight of heavy defeats. He returned for a solitary senior appearance in early 1965 against Geelong before departing the VFL, a typical example of the rapid player turnover that defined Fitzroy's struggles in the mid-1960s.
