Bio
Recruited from South Warrnambool, Kevin "Cowboy" Neale became a cult figure at Moorabbin defined by his physical presence and strong marking hands. Operating primarily as a ruckman who could drift forward with devastating effect, Neale used his robust frame to dominate contests and provide a focal point in attack. His career is inextricably linked to the 1966 Grand Final, where he produced a match-defining performance against Collingwood. Neale booted five goals in the one-point victory, playing a central role in delivering St Kilda its first and only VFL premiership.
He remained a cornerstone of the Saints' lineup throughout the 1970s, eventually assuming the captaincy in 1978 during a transitional period for the club. By the time he departed the VFL to captain-coach Ainslie in the ACT, Neale had established himself as one of St Kilda's most durable servants, retiring with over 250 games and a permanent place in club history as the ultimate big-game performer.
