Teams

Recruited from Terang in Victoria’s Western District, Kevin O’Keeffe was a running half-back flanker who combined dash with a fearless approach to the contest. He quickly established himself in the Fitzroy lineup during the mid-1970s, earning state selection for Victoria in 1975, though his career is often remembered for his involvement in the accidental collision that tragically left Footscray’s Neil Sachse a quadriplegic that same year. After seven seasons at the Junction Oval, O’Keeffe departed for the WAFL to play two seasons with East Perth, eventually returning to Fitzroy for a solitary senior game in 1982. Following his VFL retirement, he moved north and forged a significant legacy in Queensland football, captaining the state side, winning premierships with Coorparoo, and eventually earning induction into the Queensland Football Hall of Fame.
