Bio
Recruited from Kerang as a burly 20-year-old, Kevin Pay is best remembered for a singular, dominant performance that briefly promised a solution to Collingwood's key forward headaches. In Round 3, 1961, he produced a virtuoso display against Footscray at the Western Oval, booting eight goals to account for 80 per cent of the Magpies' total score—a statistical anomaly matched by few players in VFL history. A strong-bodied full-forward with a powerful long kick, Pay struggled to replicate that form and failed to kick a goal in his final season before crossing to Sandringham in the VFA. He ultimately left top-tier football to focus on his trucking business, playing for Thornton-Eildon before moving to northern New South Wales, where he became a community legend for helping establish Australian Rules clubs in the rugby league stronghold of Inverell.
