Bio
Recruited from VFA club Prahran, Kevin Sheedy arrived at Punt Road in 1967 and quickly cemented himself as a cornerstone of the ruthless Tom Hafey era. While he lacked the natural polish of some teammates, Sheedy compensated with elite football intelligence, grit, and a penchant for psychological warfare, famously earning the reputation of a "back pocket plumber." As a cunning defender who thrived on physical contests and the mental disintegration of opponents, he was instrumental in Richmond's premiership triumphs of 1969, 1973, and 1974.
Sheedy's on-field influence extended beyond mere negation; he was a tactical leader who claimed the 1976 Best and Fairest and served as club captain in 1978. He retired at the conclusion of the 1979 season, missing the Tigers' 1980 flag to embark on what would become a legendary coaching career at Essendon. His playing legacy at Richmond remains profound, validated by his selection in the club's Team of the Century and his elevation to Legend status in the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
