Bio
Recruited from the Collingwood Juniors, Kevin Sullivan was a pacy wingman and centreman whose football pedigree included strong ties to the famous Wren family. He quickly made an impression in 1941 with his long kicking and sharp reflexes, attributes he sharpened as a state representative in the sport of handball. However, the Second World War derailed his momentum, with Sullivan serving as a signaller for the 39th Battalion in New Guinea. He returned to Victoria Park in 1946 but managed only two more games before lingering kidney health issues—attributed to his war service—forced him into retirement at just 23. While his on-field career was cut short, Sullivan later became a medical pioneer, making headlines in 1966 as one of the first Australians to undergo a successful kidney transplant.
