Bio
Kevin Wade arrived at Victoria Park during the height of the Second World War, recruited from the local CYMS competition where he had played for Northcote. While he began his VFL career in the forward half—highlighted by a four-goal haul against Hawthorn in his debut season—he soon found his true calling in defence. By 1945, Wade had established himself as a steady and reliable half-back flanker, becoming one of only three Magpies to play every game that season as the club made a deep run to the Preliminary Final.
A consistent figure in the Collingwood backline throughout the late 1940s, Wade featured in three finals campaigns but ultimately missed out on the club's premiership success in 1953. His exit from the top level was messy and unfortunate; after the 1949 season, he attempted to transfer to VFA club Camberwell but was denied a clearance. Forced to return to Collingwood, he found himself in the reserves, where a broken leg sustained in a match against Richmond prematurely ended his career just days after reports surfaced of a potential mid-season transfer to Hawthorn.
