Bio
Recruited from the Fitzroy Thirds, Kevin Wright was a loyal servant of the Lions who evolved from a hardworking midfielder into a reliable avenue to goal. Wearing the number 13 guernsey, he initially cut his teeth in the centre and on the wing, where his work rate and ball-winning ability were key assets for the side. It was in the latter half of his career, however, that Wright truly found his niche, transitioning into a permanent forward role after a breakout six-goal haul against Carlton in the opening round of the 1958 season.
Wright became the focal point of the Lions' attack during a competitive period for the club, topping Fitzroy's goalkicking in consecutive seasons in 1959 and 1960. He was a key figure in the team's run to the 1960 Preliminary Final, a rare finals appearance for the club in that era. After leaving the VFL, he cemented his reputation as a leader in the VFA, captain-coaching Dandenong to a Division 2 premiership in 1962—booting six goals in the Grand Final—before eventually returning to Fitzroy as a club director.
