Bio
Recruited from the Eastern Ranges with pick 42 in the 2001 National Draft, Kieran McGuinness was a tall, left-footed utility who showed flashes of potential during his time at the Western Bulldogs. He made a memorable start to his career by booting four goals against Essendon in his debut season, but struggled to cement a regular spot in the senior 22, managing just 26 games across five seasons while spending significant time with VFL affiliate Werribee. An excellent reader of the play known for his intercept marking and composure in defence, he was delisted at the end of 2006 without fulfilling his early promise at the top level. However, McGuinness forged a superb career in the SANFL with Norwood, where he became a club great; he captained the Redlegs to back-to-back premierships in 2013 and 2014 and won two best and fairest awards before a neck injury forced his retirement while playing for the Northern Blues.
