Bio
Recruited from Scoresby under the surname Anning, Kristian Bardsley began his AFL journey with North Melbourne, where he found it difficult to crack a midfield engine room boasting the likes of Wayne Schwass and Anthony Stevens. Following his delisting by the Kangaroos, he was thrown a lifeline by St Kilda in the 1994 Pre-season Draft, signalling a fresh start that coincided with his change of name to Bardsley. At Moorabbin, he reinvented himself as a gritty, hard-working tagger and utility who famously put his head over the ball, a commitment that resulted in a heavy collision with Gary Ablett Sr in 1996 that required 18 stitches. Although injuries and form issues relegated him to the reserves during the Saints' 1997 Grand Final charge, Bardsley remains respected for the physical sacrifice and persistence that defined his second stint at the top level.
