Bio
Originally a multi-talented athlete from Tauranga, New Zealand, Kurt Heatherley joined Hawthorn via the international scholarship pathway, becoming the first Kiwi-born player to reach the club's senior list. Standing 193cm, he developed as a key defender known for his closing speed and spoiling ability, though he faced the immense difficulty of breaking into a backline anchored by premiership stars like Josh Gibson and Brian Lake. After honing his craft with Box Hill in the VFL, he finally made his AFL debut in 2016 against Melbourne but struggled to cement a regular spot in the senior side. Heatherley managed just five career games over a five-season stint before being delisted at the conclusion of 2018.
